Details have surfaced about the 8-year-old child who survived after a bus carrying 45 passengers to Moria for Easter crashed.

On March 28, 46 passengers departed from Molepolole. They were on their way to Moria in GaMokwane, Polokwane, for an Easter event hosted by the Zion Christian Church (ZCC). The Botswana-registered bus then approached the Ga-Mmamatlakala area along the R518 Road in Waterberg District, Limpopo.

At the bridge, the driver lost control of the big vehicle, causing it to drift off the road and slam into the bridge barricade. The bus crashed 50 metres into the ravine. It detonated into a tremendous flame after colliding with the rocks beneath the bridge.

The Moria tragedy killed almost everyone aboard the bus, including the driver, and left several of them burned beyond recognition. By Friday, 34 remains had been found, with only nine identified.

Only one individual survived the tragic catastrophe, an eight-year-old girl who is now being treated in a Limpopo hospital.

Authorities are still perplexed as to how Lauryn survived the horrific incident. She offered South African officials viral information about the disaster. The New York Times said that she told them where the bus was coming from and where it was headed, as well as her mother’s contact information.
